Algas epífitas de Sargassum sinicola Setchell & Gardner (Fucales, Phaeophyceae), en las islas Magdalena y Margarita en Baja California Sur, México/Epiphytic algae of Sargassum sinicola Setchell & Gardner (Fucales, Phaeophyceae) in Magdalena and Margarita

Resumen

Muestras de Sargassum sinicola fueron recolectadas mensualmente en  isla Magdalena  e isla Margarita en Baja California Sur, México, durante el período de marzo de 1987 a febrero de 1988. Se identificaron un total de          54 especies de algas epífitas de las cuales 43 son Rhodophyta (79,6 %),          6 Heterokontophyta (11,11 %) y 5 Chlorophyta (9,3%). El Orden Ceramiales fue el mejor representado con 31 taxa. Ceramium y Polysiphonia fueron los géneros con el mayor número de especies registradas. El mayor número de algas epífitas se presentó en invierno (36), este hecho coincidió con la disminución de la población de S. sinicola y el decremento de la temperatura del agua de mar. De las dos islas, Margarita fue la que registró el mayor número de algas epífitas.  

 Abstract

Specimens of Sargassum sinicola were collected monthly from Margarita Island and Magdalena Island in Baja California Sur, Mexico, from March 1987 to      February 1988. A total of 54 epiphytic algae species were identified, 43 were Rhodophyta (79,6 %), 6 Heterokontophyta (11,11 %) and 5 Chlorophyta (9,3 %). The Order Ceramiales was well represented with 31 taxa. Ceramium and Polysiphonia were the genera with the most species. The highest number of epiphytic species on the stipe was present during winter (36), coinciding with the decline of populations of Sargassum sinicola and a decrease in water temperature. Of the two islands, Margarita was the one that recorded the highest number of epiphytic algae.
